Hera is the eldest daughter of Cronus and Rhea and the wife of her brother, Zeus. Their marriage is a prominent part in the worship of Hera. All the Olympian Gods honoured her with presence and was treated similarly to Zeus. Nevertheless, she is not the “queen of gods and men”, but simply the wife of the supreme god, whom she must obey unconditionally. What she is described as however, being the mother of Ares and Hephaestus, is the “Goddess of Motherhood”. This is why cow is one of her symbols: a motherly animal.
