Zeus is the supreme ruler of the gods, the most high and powerful, the “father
of gods and men”. He is the son of Cronus and Rhea and a brother to Hades,
Poseidon, Hestia, Demeter and Hera to whom he was married to despite his many
affairs. The King of Olympus is described as “the thunderer”. His temper
affected the weather and the ancient Greeks believed that lightning signified his
rage. He is also known to punish those that lie or break oaths.
